Policy and Market Development Department
The Policy and Market Development Department has two primary functions: Corporate Finance and Policy, along with Investor Education and Public Relations. The department is broadly responsible for promoting market development and informing market-related policy.
The Corporate Finance and Policy function encompasses:
- Conducting research to guide the Commission’s regulatory approach by assessing and analysing new capital market products and services before they are introduced to the market. Research underpins the Commission’s advisory role to the Government by identifying, responding to, and monitoring emerging market-related policy issues.
- Undertaking corporate finance activities which involve analysing, reviewing, and recommending actions to be taken by the Commission concerning all corporate actions filed for approval. This review process primarily focuses on compliance with relevant disclosures to ensure investor protection.
- Implementing enterprise risk management to identify, assess, measure, monitor, and report key risk events, causes, and controls. This provides reasonable assurance of alignment with the Commission’s strategic objectives.
- Addressing fintech developments by engaging with innovators, guiding them through the capital market landscape, and testing potential capital market-related innovations.
Guided by a stakeholder map, the Stakeholder Relations and Investor Education function:
- Promotes capital market inclusion and literacy in collaboration with market stakeholders through awareness campaigns and programs designed to inform, empower, and protect investors.
- Develops and implements corporate communication strategies to inform stakeholders of the Commission’s mandate and the activities undertaken to fulfil its obligations.
